What happened to July?

It seems I’ve been neglecting my blog again. I was just discussing how refreshing it can be to write about the good things in life and yet…
So what happened to July? Heck it’s already well into August, what happened to August?
In July I continued traveling locally. I was able to spend July 4th on the island of Kauai. It was a quick visit, over in the morning, home in the afternoon, but I had a great time. I’d have spent more time there but the Fourth was a Tuesday this year and that meant I had to work on either side of the holiday.
I also made it to Maui, but that was a for a full weekend and I got to do some fun stuff. One of my best pals, Ritchie, lives on Maui with his lovely wife Jackie. I’ve known them for…oh my gosh, almost thirty-five years. How can that be, in my head I’m only twenty-one?
In any case, they are big hikers and I had the opportunity to go on a hike in the forest in Makawao. I honestly enjoy hiking, though I’ll have to admit that the kind I like is what my friend Joel would call, “a walk in the woods.” True enough. Still it was a lovely day, great company, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Here’s the kind of day it was…

I also was able to fit in the memorial bike ride, Zachary Manago’s Ride in Paradise.
This was the second time I’ve been able to do it and once again it was a blast. The ride goes from Wahiawa around Kaena Point, then back to Honolulu. It’s a mixed ride; road, trail, hiking/portage. Here I am with another Bike Friday rider out on the trail portion near the point!

It’s not a fast ride in that we are asked to stay as a group, which, for the most part I did. Here’s a picture of the route and a bit other information.

Other things?
Hmmm….I bought a new guitar. I really love the Telecaster sound so I went out and bought myself a…wait, it’s not a Tele! Okay, it may not be a Telecaster, but it’s sort of one. I ended up with a really lovely G&L ASAT Classic which is a guitar made by G&L, the company Leo Fender created after this time at Fender. You might say it’s the next evolution of this design. Or you might say, “It’s not a Telecaster.” Either is fine with me. It’s a lovely guitar and much better than I can use.

I’m sure I’ll be putting up some sound files in the near future, I’m definitely still working on recording! Yes!
There’s a lot more, my moped was stolen after thirteen years. If I’m completely honest, I don’t miss it much, but I still feel violated. Maybe it’ll turn up, but I doubt it.
All in all, a good couple of months. The loss of the moped was the only real negative and honestly, not so much.
Aloha!
